Programme Features
The programme provides a rigorous interdisciplinary foundation spanning mechanics, electronics, software, control, computer vision, and artificial intelligence. Students progress from fundamental robotics principles to advanced topics with a distinctive emphasis in robot learning, embodied intelligence, and human-centred applications, supported by dedicated courses such as Fundamentals of Robot Learning and Embodied Intelligence for Robotics. These are complemented by specialised topics in mapping, navigation, and manipulation. A substantial final-year research or capstone project (ROSE4998 and ROSE4999) integrates theory and practice, enabling students to tackle real-world challenges. Students benefit from CUHK’s world-class ecosystem, including the T Stone Robotics Institute and the InnoHK centres, bridging cutting-edge research with real-world applications.
Career Prospects
Graduates will develop high-demand, interdisciplinary expertise across software, AI, and hardware design. This combination prepares students for technical roles—such as Robotics Engineer, Automation and Control Systems Engineer, Computer Vision Engineer, and Machine Learning Engineer—at leading robotics companies like UBTECH, VisionNav, and Siasun Robotics as well as major automation players including Foxconn and BYD. Additionally, the rigorous, multidisciplinary foundation positions graduates competitively for Master’s and PhD programmes at top universities in Hong Kong, Chinese mainland, and overseas. The hands-on experience in systems thinking and prototyping equips students with the skills needed to turn ideas into commercial products, supporting those interested in launching robotics startups. Overall, the programme provides a strong foundation for careers in industry, academic research, and entrepreneurship, opening doors to impactful roles across global sectors such as healthcare, aerospace, autonomous systems, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and urban infrastructure.
