Congratulations to the CUHK’s robotics team “Airdropper” (迎籃而上) on winning First Runner-up, along with the Best Team Spirit Award, Best Performance Award, and Best Engineering Award at the Robocon 2025 Hong Kong Contest! Additionally, the team “CU Allstar” (傳神灌注) finished in fourth place.
The two robotics teams are comprised of students mostly from engineering, including Mechanical and Automation Engineering (MAE), Electronic Engineering (EE), and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).
The contest was held at Hong Kong Science Park on 22 June 2025, with 13 student teams from 8 local tertiary institutions. The theme of this year’s contest was “Robot Basketball”, inspired by the basketball culture of Mongolia. It emphasized the spirit of “Team Effort, Ultimate Success” through the collaboration of two robots. The competition follows international basketball rules, with red and blue teams taking turns attacking, and each team deploying two self-designed robotic “players” to compete in real time. The participating teams showcased challenging skills like passing and shooting in an intense and thrilling environment, creating an electrifying atmosphere that drew spectators into the excitement usually found at live sporting events.
