The Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering (MAE) has achieved outstanding result in the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2020. RAE was conducted by Hong Kong’s University Grants Committee (UGC), it assesses Universities’ research performance using international benchmarks based on research outputs, impact and environment.
Our UoA (unit of assessment) has obtained 94% of world-leading (4*) and internationally excellent (3*) overall research quality profile, the highest among the UGC-funded universities. In particular, our research impact received 100% 4* rating, meaning “outstanding impacts in terms of their reach and significance”. The impact cases include researches on medical robotics, motion capture and assistive systems. The MAE Department will continue to bring significant impact locally and globally, and to strive for excellence in research.
