Congratulations to Professor CHEN Shih-Chi and Professor LAU Tat Ming Darwin on winning the Gold Medals for their inventions in the 13th International Invention Fair in the Middle East (IIFME)!
Gold Medal: An Ultrafast Oscillating Blade Microtome for 3D Imaging and Drug Screening
Awardees: Prof. CHEN Shih-Chi, Dr. FU Xinlei (Ph.D. Graduate, MAE), Dr. ZHONG Qiuyuan (Honorary Research Associate, MAE) & Dr. XU Xiayi (Honorary Research Associate, MAE)
Project Description:
Precision Cut Limited is founded by a team of experts in precision engineering and biomedical engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. We are dedicated to developing solutions of precision tissue sectioning and cutting via various technologies. The proposed product is the ultrafast oscillating blade microtome for precision tissue sectioning. The new microtome successfully addresses the existing challenges for the commercial products. The highest blade oscillating frequency (up to 350 Hz) and minimal error motion (< 1 µm) ensure excellent cutting capability, which will generate great commercial value in the fields of pathology and biophotonics.

Gold Medal: Cable-driven Inspection Robot for High-rise Building Façade
Awardees: Prof. LAU Tat Ming Darwin & his team
Project Description:
This is a mobile cable robot system with four components to perform contact-based façade inspections. It simplifies the current workflow, eliminating the need for working at height and providing a quantitative, digital diagnosis.
Mobile façade inspection robot to perform physical hammer tapping to check for potential concrete spalling.
