Start-ups of Prof. Samuel Au and Prof. Wei Ren receive the 2023 Deloitte Hong Kong Rising Star Awards

CUHK’s spin-off companies Cornerstone Robotics Limited (founded by Professor Samuel Au), and LaSense Technology Limited (co-founded by Professor Wei Ren) received the 2023 Deloitte Hong Kong Rising Star (HKRS) awards on 26 January 2024.

HKRS recognises young companies in leading positions that have ample room for growth in their industry segments.

Cornerstone Robotics Limited

Cornerstone Robotics Limited (CRS), founded in 2019, aspires to create safe, efficient and precise surgical robots that enhance and extend surgical capabilities, thereby allowing patients around the world to benefit from the highest standards of care. CRS’s self-developed Sentire C1000 Endoscopic Surgical Robotic System has successfully completed clinical trials in different specialties and has applied for medical device certifications globally. It is expected to be commercialised soon.

LaSense Technology Limited

LaSense Technology Limited stands as a pioneering high-tech startup with a primary focus on advanced gas sensing technology utilising lasers. Drawing from spectroscopic technology initially developed at CUHK, LaSense has achieved remarkable success in creating cutting-edge laser spectrometers tailored for precision gas monitoring applications in Carbon Neutrality initiatives and medical domains. Currently, LaSense is expanding its operations beyond Hong Kong, reaching into the Greater Bay Area, and has solidified its position as a significant supplier of laser instruments in China.
